LMC is necessarily not a requirement for the charger to work. However, it is highly recommended to have it in limited grid capacity situations, i.e. apartment buildings, private houses, etc. Using a charger without LMC doesn't have the capability to protect against circuit breaker tripping in cases where current consumption due to charging exceeds the maximum current limit of the circuit breaker. This means that the user must manually set the charging current limit of the car and still hope that it doesn't trip the current circuit breaker while also not utilizing the maximum available current of the grid connection point.
