15-minute electricity market intervals

The Nord Pool market moved from hourly to 15-minute settlement. What that means for cheapest-hours and price-limited charging.

Electricity spot prices in the Nord Pool area used to be set for each hour. They are now set for each 15-minute period — Latvia moved in October 2025 and Estonia followed. VOOL supports the shorter interval, so price-based charging follows the 15-minute prices rather than an hourly average.

What it changes for you

  • Cheaper periods are shorter and more numerous. Instead of picking whole cheap hours, charging can now use the cheapest quarters within an hour.

  • Charging may start and stop more often. If the price crosses your limit part-way through an hour, charging follows the price. That is the feature working, not a fault.

  • Your price limit means the same thing as before. Set it against what a kilowatt-hour actually costs you — including transmission and taxes — not against the bare spot price. A limit set against the spot price alone will rarely be met.

If your charging still looks hourly

First make sure the VOOL app is up to date. If the behaviour still looks like whole-hour blocks after that, send us the charger serial number, the date, and the charging mode you were using, and we will look at what the site actually received. Include a screenshot of the price graph if you have one — it makes the difference immediately obvious.
