Current versions of the VOOL app require iOS 17.6 or newer. The minimum was raised to iOS 17 in autumn 2025, when the app moved to a newer development toolchain.
If your iPhone cannot be updated past iOS 16 — an iPhone X, for example, stops at 16.7 — you cannot install the newest version of the app. You are not locked out, though.
If your iPhone cannot run iOS 17.6
The App Store will offer you the last version of the app that works on your device. Open the VOOL app's page in the App Store and press the download icon (the cloud with a downward arrow). That version installs and works.
If you already have an older version installed, keep using it — you do not need to do anything.
What an older app version can and cannot do
Everyday use is unaffected: you can see your chargers, start and stop charging, use RFID cards, and view your history and costs.
What you may run into is the opposite of what people expect. An older version of the app still shows features that have since been withdrawn from the service — the old Full battery with cheapest price and Enode-based solar programs, for instance. Those were discontinued for everyone in January 2026, not just for old phones. If you try to start one, the app will simply say the program could not be started. Use one of the current programs instead: Charge now, Schedule, Price-based or Cheapest hours.
If you charge often, update the phone
We keep older app versions working, but they do not receive new features or fixes, and app stores do not keep old builds available forever. If the phone is your main way of managing charging, moving to a device that runs iOS 17.6 or newer is worth doing at some point — there is no urgency.
You can always use a browser instead
Nothing about the app limits your account. app.vool.com works in any modern browser, on a phone or a computer, and gives you your sites, devices, sessions and settings. For public charging, charge.vool.com works the same way.
