Set up paid charging with QR codes (site hidden from maps)

Step by step: company and payout details, CPO Suite, electricity cost, charging price and hiding the site from maps so drivers pay by scanning the QR code on the charger.

This guide shows how to turn a private site into paid charging where drivers pay by scanning a QR code on the charger. The site stays off all maps, so only people standing at the charger can use it. Typical uses: company parking, apartment buildings, guest parking.

In the examples below the workspace owner is Juhan Härm and the site is Veerenni 38 with four chargers (Charger 1–4). Your own names will be different.

Before you start

You need to be the owner of the workspace. Charging revenue is paid out to the company entered by the workspace owner. If your installer created the workspace for you, ask them (or [email protected]) to transfer ownership to you.

Have these ready:

  • Your company name, registration number, VAT number and address

  • The bank account (IBAN) where charging revenue should be paid

  • A payment card for the VOOL CPO Suite fee (8% of charging revenue, no monthly fee)

  • Your electricity price and network (transmission) fee in cents/kWh, excluding VAT

  • The price you want drivers to pay, in cents/kWh, excluding VAT

All chargers on the site must be Online. A site is only visible to drivers when at least one of its chargers is online.

Step 1: Open your site

  1. Log in to app.vool.com.

  2. Go to Sites and open your site.

The site page shows your devices and two settings cards: Details (address and electricity costs) and Availability (who can charge and at what price). Until the electricity cost is entered (step 4), a red message "This site is missing information about electricity costs" is shown at the top.

Step 2: Add company, payment and payout details

Go to Workspace settings → Settings and fill in:

  1. Company details: your company's registration information. It appears on the receipts drivers get.

  2. Payment method: the card used for the VOOL CPO Suite fee. Drivers' payments do not go through this card.

  3. Payout details: the bank account where VOOL pays your charging revenue at the start of each month for the previous month.

Step 3: Subscribe to VOOL CPO Suite

VOOL CPO Suite lets you collect money from drivers. There is no monthly fee: VOOL keeps 8% of the charging revenue.

  1. Go to Workspace settings → Subscriptions.

  2. Under VOOL CPO Suite, click Subscribe, accept the terms and confirm.

Step 4: Enter your electricity cost

A site cannot be made paid until its electricity cost is entered. The portal also uses it to calculate your margin.

  1. On the site page, click the pencil icon on the Details card.

  2. Under Pricing model, choose what matches your electricity contract:

    • Market (spot-price contract): choose your country and 15-min prices or Hourly prices. The energy price is taken from the exchange automatically.

    • Fixed (fixed-price contract): enter Energy cost in cents/kWh. Turn on Use day/night energy prices if your contract has separate day and night prices.

  3. Enter the network fee in Transmission cost (cents/kWh). If you have day and night tariffs, turn on Use day/night transmission prices and set when the day period starts and ends.

  4. Optionally add Other fees and taxes (for example excise duty or renewable energy fee).

  5. Click Save changes.

Enter all prices excluding VAT.

Step 5: Set the charging price and hide the site from maps

The panel is called Public charging, but here it simply means paid charging. In point 6 you hide the site from every map, so only people who scan the QR code at the charger can charge.

  1. On the site page, click the pencil icon on the Availability card. The Public charging panel opens.

  2. Tick Enable.

  3. Choose the pricing model:

    • Fixed: one price, for example 30 cents/kWh

    • Market+margin: the exchange price plus your margin, for example +10 cents/kWh

  4. Enter the price excluding VAT. Drivers pay this price plus VAT. Check that all chargers are listed under Serial number or name.

  5. Leave Allow reservations off.

  6. Scroll down and untick both:

    • Show in public maps (Google Maps and others)

    • Show in VOOL public map (charge.vool.com)

  7. Click Save changes.

With both map options off the site is "unlisted": it does not appear on any map and can only be reached through the charger's QR code or a direct link. The Availability card on the site page still says Public; that is expected.

Step 6: Put a QR code on each charger

Each charger needs its own QR code that opens that charger's page. Contact [email protected] to get QR stickers or print files for your chargers.

How drivers charge

Drivers don't need to install an app: everything works in the phone's browser.

  1. Plug in the car and scan the QR code on the charger.

  2. The charger's page opens on charge.vool.com and shows the price.

  3. The first time, enter an email address and payment card (the screen guides you).

  4. Tap Start. Charging begins.

  5. When charging ends, the amount is charged to the card automatically.

Next time, scanning the QR code or using the VOOL app is enough.
